2020 Award Categories

There are 4 main Award Categories with a number of awards to enter within each. Click the buttons below to view the Awards within each Category.

STEP 1: You must become a member of HABIC to enter. Join HABIC

STEP 2: Choose the Category or Categories you wish to enter.

STEP 3: Choose the Award/s within the Category/ies which you wish to enter. 

STEP 4: Read the entry requirements specific to each of the Awards within your chosen Category.

STEP 5: Let the creative process begin! Consider your entry and who you would like to work with to achieve the best results.

STEP 6: Select your model/s, make-up artist, stylist and photographer of choice or re-visit an existing image* that you already have.

* Due to COVID-19, we are permitting the entry of existing images, including images that you have submitted for a BEST of the BEST award in a previous year. However, PLEASE NOTE: Previous BEST of the BEST winning images are not eligible.

STEP 7: Provide all those involved with the relevant Terms and Conditions of entry, this is especially important for your photographer.

STEP 8: Consider a timeline bearing all travel/movement and gathering restrictions in mind.

STEP 9: Complete your photoshoot.

STEP 10: When you are ready to enter: log into HABIC.ie, Complete your entry form, upload your images and pay your Submission Fee.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID-19 and the fact that we will not host a Gala Awards Evening as originally planned, this year there is no Entry Fee for the BEST of the BEST Awards. However there will be an Administration Fee of €20 chargeable for each Award Submission.

STEP 10: ALL entries this year must be submitted through the HABIC website. CLOSING DATE for submissions is Midnight Wednesday 14th October 2020. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Photographic Collection and Photographic Single Image Awards
  • All qualified hairdressers/barbers/make-up artists who work in the Republic of Ireland Hair and Beauty commercial environment, and who have done so for a minimum of 2 years excluding training, may enter these categories. In the case of Newcomer Award entrants, they must have a minimum of 2 years including training.
  • Work for submission may be published work however, the submission cannot include images created for colour companies.
  • Work for submission may include images submitted for a BEST of the BEST Award in a previous year. However, previous BEST of the BEST winning images are not eligible.
  • Winners recognised in the Hall of Fame can re-enter their chosen category after a two-year rest period.
  • All entrants must be a member of HABIC Ireland to enter the BEST of the BEST awards. (Join HABIC)
Newcomer Awards
  • Newcomer Awards are open only to first time entrants to BEST of the BEST Awards.
  • Entrants must be professionals.
  • Entrants must have a minimum of 2 years hairdressing, make-up artistry or barbering experience including training.
  • Previous entrants and winners of this Award cannot enter.
  • Newcomers are NOT limited to this Award only.  
International Awards
  • All qualified hairdressers/barbers/make-up artists who work in the Hair and Beauty commercial environment outside of the Republic of Ireland, and who have done so for a minimum of 2 years excluding training, may enter these categories. (This includes Northern Ireland and all other international territories.)
  • Work for submission may be published work however, the submission cannot include images created for colour companies.
  • Work for submission may include images submitted for a BEST of the BEST Award in a previous year. However, previous BEST of the BEST winning images are not eligible.
  • Winners recognised in the Hall of Fame can re-enter their chosen category after a two-year rest period.
  • All entrants must be a member of HABIC Ireland to enter the BEST of the BEST awards. (Join HABIC)
Business Awards
  • All entrants must be a member of HABIC Ireland to enter the BEST of the BEST awards. (Join HABIC)
  • All salons must have a business located in the Republic of Ireland.
  • Salons can enter more than one category.
  • Staff of the salon can also enter Awards within other Categories excluding Photographic Collection International.
  • Franchises and partnerships can enter.
  • All salons MUST offer a quality service, they must have a focus on innovation, growth, learning and development.

The adjudication process differs depending on the Category.

1. Photographic Collection, Photographic Single Image and International Award Categories
  • The Photographic Collection & Single Image Categories will be judged by an internationally based panel of judges. 
  • International Award Categories will be judged by a panel of judges based in the Republic of Ireland. 
  • All submissions are anonymous – neither the identify of the entrant nor salon will be shared with the judge. Only the image will be presented.
  • Each judge will adjudicate independently. There will be no discussion nor consultation between judges.
  • Each judge will score the entries 1 to the total number of entries. They will return all images with a score. 
  • The scores from the adjudication panel will then be counted by an independent auditor resulting in a shortlist of finalists for each Award.
  • The winner will be announced online (more details to follow).
  • The decision of the adjudication panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • The submission and adjudication process will be monitored and strictly controlled.
2. NEW: HABIC Business Awards
  • Initially, submissions will be shortlisted by a panel of business professionals based on the application submitted. 
  • The shortlisted outlets will be listed on habic.ie.
  • Public Voting will then open for each of the Business Awards allowing the public to vote for their favourite entrant. Only one vote for each award per email address will be permitted. 
  • While the online voting proceeds, the shortlisted submissions will be presented to a panel of judges. Each judge will sign a non-disclosure agreement.
  • The judges will score the entries 1 to the total number of shortlisted entrants.
  • The decision of the adjudication panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • The submission and adjudication process will be monitored and strictly controlled.
  • The online voting will close (date to be confirmed)
  • The online voting results will be combined with the judge’s scores for the final result.
