Confirmed Close Contact – What to do?

We have received a number of enquiries from HABIC members with concerns about what to do in the case of someone in their household or the household of a member of their team testing positive for COVID-19, or as a confirmed Close Contact of a confirmed case.

As each case is different and our individual circumstances are different, it is difficult to apply a blanket rule and issue advice and so the best that we can strongly recommend is that you take the time to read these guidelines as set out by the HSE.

We urge you to be sensible and to air on the side of caution. Your health and the health of your family, team and clients is what is most important.

At all times remember your safety protocol.

Confirmed Close Contact – How to Stay Informed?

Download the COVID Tracker App if you haven’t done so already. The COVID Tracker is a free app for your mobile phone. It will help us to protect each other and slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Ireland. The App will

  •  alert you if you have been in close contact with another app user who has tested positive for coronavirus
  •  be able to track any symptoms you have and get advice on what to do to protect yourself and others
  •  be able to anonymously warn other app users that you were in close contact with, if you test positive for coronavirus

When to get tested?

1. If you suddenly experience one of these symptoms and there is no other obvious cause:

  • fever
  • cough – this can be any kind of cough, not just dry
  • shortness of breath
  • loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

2. If you are a close contact of a confirmed case of coronavirus, you will be phoned by the contact tracing team. They will arrange a test for you. You will be tested even if you do not have symptoms.

Or if you do not have the COVID Tracker App, but become aware that you have had close contact with a confirmed case, please contact your GP by phone.

When to Self Isolate – (Restricted Movements)

  • if you have symptoms of coronavirus
  • while you wait for a test appointment and your test results, if you have symptoms of coronavirus
  • If you are being tested as a close contact of a confirmed case of coronavirus and you don’t have any symptoms, you should restrict your movements instead
  • If you live with someone who has symptoms of coronavirus
  • if you have had a positive test result for coronavirus
