Who carries cash these days? This question was relevant before COVID darkened our door and it is all the more relevant now as we are repeatedly asked to make contactless payments as opposed to the ‘old fashioned’ cash payments.
So how can we ‘tip’ when we don’t carry cash? The answer very often is… we can’t. We end up muttering an embarrassed ‘so sorry, I have no cash’ as we’re about to leave. The result is twofold – our clients are embarrassed, and our teams miss out on receiving the all-important and valuable ‘tip’ that makes all the difference to their personal income.
HABIC is very aware that the ‘tipping’ culture is integral to industry. It’s the little extra that helps to bolster our wages as we start out and progress through our careers.
The Hair and Beauty sector, similar to hospitality and most service sectors, are grateful for tips received to support our teams. But what happens if our clients are not carrying cash?
Enter Strikepay – Tap to Tip!
Strikepay is an Irish fintech start-up which has developed a digital, personal, payment technology designed to make tipping and payments as easy as possible. Strikepay’s patent pending technology solves this everyday problem of our cashless, contact-free society, enabling digital payments without the need for a payment terminal or an app on your phone. Strikepay has been successfully deployed in multiple industries in Ireland and is now launching in a number of international markets. Strikepay’s mission is to build the most frictionless, digital, personal payment platform.
Strikepay, the brainchild of Oli Cavanagh and Charles Dowd, went live with food delivery chain Camile Thai as its first partner earlier this year. It is in talks with businesses across a range of sectors that are interested in rolling out the technology.
“There are about 60 million people in English-speaking countries alone, who rely on tips and who are hurting right not because they aren’t getting much in the way of them due to COVID,” he said.
“Delivery drivers who have been using Strikepay on a trial basis have been doubling their tips, which is an even better result than we expected,” Mr Cavanagh added.
Strikepay is aiming to take away the friction that is often associated with making contactless payments, by making it as simple as possible to do.
HABIC are always on the look-out for products and services that add value or offer savings to our members. We are very aware that the move to contactless payments is having a devastating impact on tip payments. As soon as we heard about Strikepay, we were eager to find out more about their product and service.
The solution does not require payment terminals or for customers to download a mobile app. In addition to tags/cards that can be worn by individuals, Strikepay also has wristbands, fobs and little pucks that can be attached to charity boxes and other objects.
A number of our colleagues within the hair and beauty industry are using Strikepay to great success.
It is an easy to use system, that is a win-win for everyone. It helps your client to avoid those embarrassing ‘sorry, I have no cash’ moments, and it provides your team with the extra financial support from ‘client tips’.
HABIC is delighted to say that we have secured a HABIC Member offer from Strikepay.
